General Rules
Core principles for DarkRP roleplay conduct
General Rules
The basics. If you understand these, you'll understand everything else.
Remember
We're here to have fun. These rules exist to stop people ruining it for others — not to create a rulebook for lawyers.
1. Identity
RP Names
We're not strict about names — gaming-style names are fine.
What's NOT allowed:
- Racist, homophobic, or otherwise hateful names
- Political figures or controversial public figures
- Staff impersonation
| ✅ Allowed | ❌ Not Allowed |
|---|---|
| John Smith | N-word variations |
| xX_Killer_Xx | Donald Trump |
| ShadowDemon | Hitler, Stalin, etc. |
| NoobSlayer2000 | Staff impersonation |
Staff can ask you to change your name. Don't argue about it.
2. FearRP (Valuing Your Life)
When you're clearly fucked, act like it.
If someone has a gun on you and you can't realistically fight back or escape, comply with reasonable demands.
When FearRP Applies
- Weapon aimed at you, you're unarmed or outgunned
- No realistic escape route
- Restrained or cuffed
When FearRP Doesn't Apply
- You have a weapon ready
- You're in a moving vehicle
- Clear escape path or cover
- Attacker is distracted
"I had a gun in my pocket" doesn't count. FearRP is about what you can realistically do right now.
3. FailRP
Your actions should make some sense for your character.
This is DarkRP, so we're not expecting Shakespeare. But some stuff is obviously breaking roleplay:
- Cop helping criminals raid the PD
- Jumping off a building to escape a mug
- Ignoring a hostage situation to argue in chat
- Breaking character to complain about rules mid-scenario
Use common sense.
4. Metagaming
Don't use information your character doesn't have.
Your character only knows what they've seen or heard in-game.
| ❌ Metagaming | ✅ Valid |
|---|---|
| Friend tells you on Discord who raided you | You saw the raider's face |
| Checking Steam profile to find someone | Following them from spawn |
| Using hit list to identify targets OOC | Target pointed out in-game |
See the Discord section for our realistic approach to external comms.
5. Powergaming
You can't force actions on other players without giving them a chance to respond.
Roleplay requires participation from both sides.
| ❌ Invalid | ✅ Valid |
|---|---|
/me knocks you unconscious | /me attempts to grab your arm |
/me takes your wallet | /me reaches for your pocket |
They get to respond to what you're trying to do.
6. Props
Props are for building, not combat.
| Violation | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Prop Block | Sealing off accessible areas |
| Prop Climb | Getting to unreachable spots |
| Prop Kill | Using physics to damage players |
| Prop Push | Moving players against their will |
"I was just building" isn't a defense if your props killed someone.
7. Staff Interactions
Staff decisions are final in the moment.
If a staff member tells you to stop something, stop. If you disagree:
- Comply now
- Record evidence
- Appeal on Discord later
Arguing during a sit wastes everyone's time and can make your punishment worse.
