Firework Maker
They banned the fireworks. They couldn't ban the fire.
Firework Maker — Vincent "Sparks" Moreno
Vincent Moreno survived the Ironhaven Warehouse fire that killed his brother and thirty-six others.
The Story
The city banned fireworks the next week. Vincent watched the memorial services, attended the hearings, and stayed silent when they blamed the workers instead of the inspectors who took bribes.
A year later, he started making fireworks again—in secret, in basements, in warehouses the city forgot about. He tells himself it's about giving people joy. About taking back what the ban stole. Deep down, he knows it's penance. Every rocket that doesn't explode wrong is his brother coming home safe.
The Wound
He was there the night the warehouse burned. Ironhaven Pyrotechnics, New Year's Eve, ten years ago. A spark where it shouldn't have been, and thirty-seven people who never made it out. His brother was one of them. Vincent survived because he stepped outside for a cigarette.
The Fear
That he's become the thing that killed his brother—someone cutting corners, ignoring safety, prioritizing profit over people.
The Cope
Precision. Every measurement exact. Every safety check completed. Every batch inspected before it leaves his hands.
The Want
To give people back what the city took from them. The celebrations, the lights, the joy.
The Need
To forgive himself for surviving. To accept that being outside that night wasn't cowardice—it was just luck.
The Hook
Someone's been setting fires around the Industrial District. Same signature as the warehouse. Same accelerant. Either it's a copycat, or something Vincent thought was over isn't done with him yet.
